Welcome!
We cordially invite you to join us! The Broward Coalition, a not-for-profit 501(c)(4) corporation, has been serving the community for over 30 years. We meet the second Friday of each month (excluding July and August) for lunch, which is complimentary and for members only.
Our meetings present topics that help us make decisions about issues that affect us locally, statewide and nationally. We are non-partisan, present both sides of the argument, and do not endorse candidates for political office. We are all volunteers.
Membership includes 10 issues of the NEWSLETTER, notices of our meetings, education, friendship and great lunches. We are a coalition of Condominiums, HOAs, PUDs, CO-OPs, Community Organizations and individuals. We welcome your active participation, and are always seeking volunteers for leadership positions.

Fannie Mayhem: A History
Rep. Barney Frank (D., Mass.): I worry, frankly, that there's a tension here. The more people, in my judgment, exaggerate a threat of safety and soundness, the more people conjure up the possibility of serious financial losses to the Treasury, which I do not see.
Don Urquhart’s Response to Comm. Ritter
I have to begin by thanking Charlotte for helping to keep us so well informed about important issues. I read Mayor Ritter’s comments with a bit of astonishment and was compelled to respond. I apologize at the outset for the length of my response but a matter of this complexity and nature needs to be explored before it can be neatly summarized.

Today, the U.S. Supreme Court announced a landmark victory for free speech, making clear in Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission that under the First Amendment the government cannot stifle dissent by restricting the right of corporations to spend money on independent political speech.
The Fabric of Society Is Being Torn Apart by Corruption
As 2009 draws to a close, the fabric of society is being torn apart by corruption. So says the top Federal Bureau of Investigations agent for South Florida.
In a speech resembling a morality pep talk, John Gillies, the FBI special agent in charge of the Miami division, last week gave a summary of his office's caseload to a West Boca Chamber of Commerce meeting.
Is this the next huge swindle/meltdown?
With a mandatory cap-and-trade system for carbon emissions likely, some Florida businesses are looking for an edge — and profits — by trading in voluntary markets. But those markets, some say, are still in a “wild, wild west” stage. For half a century, the Gannon power plant near Tampa Bay burned coal to churn out the electricity that keeps lights burning and air conditioners humming in the Tampa Bay area.
Broward school auditors' reports don't always win them friends
FORT LAUDERDALE - At the nation's sixth largest school district, auditing how the money is spent by co-workers and elected officials isn't always the best way to make friends.

Breaking: Broward School Buildings Chief Misled Public About License
It sounded pretty cut and dried at the Broward School Board's December 11 audit committee meeting. Audit committee member and veteran activist Charlotte Greenbarg asked the board's chief building officer, Ronald Morgan, about the status of his state license.
